The Millennium Development Goals:

Preface:

The United Nations Millennium Development Goals often abbreviated as the MDGs are seen as the greatest goal that the United Nations should be working to promote. These goals outline various flaws of the human society from problems ranging from poverty, education, and environment sustainability. Furthermore, it should be noted that one goal is set apart from the others as the most important plan to be achieved. This is the elimination of poverty. However, we come to a standoff between the supporters and critics divided over one issue: feasibility. The goal of this page is to give you a overview of the MDGs and to pinpoint the major arguments of both sides of the controversy.

Genre 1: Overview

Introduction:

The Millennium Development Goals encompass nearly every aspect our lives from poverty to environment sustainability. Yet, to the people who do not such goals they find it hard to interpret the motives of the United Nations and as result the world. Through this passage, you will learn the major goals of the United Nations and in a sense the world's goals.

Question:

What are United Nations Millennium Development Goals and how did they affect the global community?

Essay:

Upon the ashes of entire nations laid waste by the war, 55 million people dead, and the genocide of the Jewish, the leaders of the world vowed “never again” and founded the United Nations upon basic principles to prevent any more such devastating wars (United Nations). The United Nations, can be seen as the direct contrast of that of the League of Nations, which was founded after the “Great War” and largely failed in preventing further conflicts due to its discriminatory nature. The United Nations can be seen as a major overhaul of the various policies that resulted in the League of Nations. This non-governmental organization serves a mediator of conflicts and is also focused upon achieving the goal it sets for a specific time frame which became known as the the UN Millennium Development Goals. Although many critics point out many of these goals are far to idealistic and lack practicality, we must also bear in mind that these goals have also succeeded in motivating various nations to start taking measures for a more peaceful community.
The United Nations Charter is mostly based upon the upholding of one major principle. That principle is the Millennium Development Goals; this principle relies upon the Secretary-General setting goals for the world to carry out on a specific timeframe. A significant aspect of the goals are their temporary nature which allows for more flexibility in the face of changing times. For example, the 2015 Millennium Development Goals call for the end of poverty through out the world and other various goals (Millennium Development Goals).
However, although they might help the population in the long-term such goals have been widely criticized for their promotion of idealistic values that cannot fully be achieved. Such criticism came from both the general public. The implementation of the goals are sometimes impossible due to the nature of the nations that they affect. These nations often called “rogue” nations do not adhere to international edict and act as they please. It should also be noted that most of the poverty-stricken population live in corrupted states that further dims the chance that these goals will be carried out to the fullest efficiency. As a result, such goals were criticized as promoting the waste of resources that were dedicated in achieving the goal.
These allegations may be true, however, if we take only such flaws into context then we are not analyzing the current status quo of those goals. It must be accepted that the goals have been unrealistic and far too idealistic resulting in underachievement of most of the goals. However, this does not mean that these goals are without benefits. Contrary to the general belief that these goals have never been followed is quite wrong. For example, another millennium states that nations should become eco-friendly while maintaining economic sustainability. Although it may seem impossible to most nations, in reality this goal has encouraged nations such as Costa Rica in proposing to go Carbon-Neutral by the year 2030 (Costa Rica Green Building). Without such goals, nations would have never taken initiative to fight such injustices in our societies in the first place.
There are countless flaws in the societies that we have take into account. These flaws are contributing to the global instability through promoting fissures being developed amongst many nations. The Unite Nations Millennium Development Goals takes into account and sets goals for the nations to follow. Although, it might be impossible to meet the various deadlines set by the United Nations, it puts the nations on track to fix our heavily flawed global community today.

Genre 2: Goals for a Developing Country

Introduction:

Now that I have given an overview of the goals of the United Nations, in the next genre I would like to see a more specific analysis approach. Now the Development Goals affect two types of nations developed and developing. In this genre I will analyze the impacts and benefits of the goals within the developing nations. I would also see how the impact of goals may also be negative within this topic. So this would be the major goal of this project.

Genre 3: TV Advertisement

Introduction:

Finally, to finish off this project I would like to end with a biased view of the MDGs whether for good or bad. This genre will be a television advertisement promoting the belief of why we should act now. In addition to this statement we will show you why the action must be take now to achieve the goals that we have set.

Question:

Why now why us?

Final Thoughts:

Now that we have seen a comprehensive view of the Millennium Development Goals, it is my hope that you understand what the MDGs stand for and as a result what the United Nations stands for. My final note upon this project is that even though the goals may be seem unfeasible, it is still worth reaching for because we will one day see the fruits of our labor no matter how small a step we take.
